Watch: Liz Gunn Talks To Anya Tate-Manning about My Best Dead Friend

From Wednesday July 12th to Saturday July 22nd, Q Theatre Loft is hosting My Best Dead Friend  as part of MATCHBOX, the Q Theatre creative development programme.

It’s set in Dunedin in December 1998 , in high summer, in a town where there isn’t a lot to do.

It’s a true story about heart-breaking grief,  enduring friendship and great music- including The Verlaines, Backstreet Boys, and Tom Waits.  As well, there are rich pickings from the poetry of Tuwhare, Baxter, and Bishop. It’s been aptly described as a joyful comedy from a heavy heart.

Created by Anya Tate-Manning (Hudson & Halls Live!) and Isobel MacKinnon (Best Director, 2015 NZ Fringe Festival) the play was first performed at Perth’s 2016  Fringe World where it was nominated for the West Australian Arts Editor’s Award- where the actor- writer’s performance was glowingly described as “ completely disarming and natural”

Liz Gunn discussed the upcoming Q Theatre season of her play with Anya Tate-Manning, at the 13th Floor Studio.
