Watch: Gang Of Youths 13th Floor Video Session!

Gang Of Youths dropped by to play us a few tunes from their new album, Go Farther In Lightness. And discuss to taboo topic – youth suicide.

The topic of suicide, especially in relation to the young and the artistic community, is one of increasing concern, particularly in New Zealand. We, at The 13th Floor, believe it is something that needs to be discussed openly and candidly.

David Le’aupepe, the front man for Australian rockers Gang Of Youths, has a personal relationship with suicide and drug abuse. When he and bandmate Joji Malani stopped by The 13th Floor studios a couple of days ago, David was gracious enough to sit down and discuss the topic with Marty Duda. This seems particularly relevant in the light of the recent deaths of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and the reports revealing that New Zealand has the highest rates (by far) of youth suicide in the developed world.

Gang Of YouthsThe band also has a new album due out in a few weeks titled Go Farther In Lightness. David and Joji perform three new songs from the upcoming album. Those performances take place about 17 minutes into the video clip, so feel free to skip ahead if you are after the music.

But we urge you to take the time to watch the first part of the video at some point and listen to what David Le’aupepe has to say about a subject that he, and many New Zealanders, are all too familiar with.
