This year’s Southern Fork Americana Fest came to a glorious conclusion last night with an impressive lineup of Kiwi Americana artists on the bill along with a tasty BBQ.
After hosting some of the US’s finest Americana artists including Robert Ellis, Hayes Carll and Lindi Ortega, it was the Kiwi artists’ night to shine.
Things got underway early…at about 4:30…with a brief set by Skyscraper Stan, followed by Reb Fountain, who, along with her own solo set, sat in with just about everyone on the bill, making her the evening’s Most Valuable Player.
Nick and Tim from Hopetoun Brown previewed a handful of tunes from the upcoming second ablum (due out on October 28th) along with a few old favourites. Then Ebony Lamb and her band, led by guitarist Dylan Storey entertained the troops.
The final act of the evening was Tom Cunliffe who impressed everyone with his incredible voice.
Finally the evening finished to two magnificent all-star performances. First, Reb Fountain presented her version of Patti Smith’s Gloria (In Excelsis Deo) which really rocked and then everyone chimed in for The Band’s The Weight.
Thanks again to the folks at The Tuning Fork for putting together another fine Americana Fest, I’m already looking forward to next year’s.
The 13th Floor’s Michael Flynn was on the scene and captured a treasure trove of images…check them out here:
