Summer In Auckland Parks: Hot Sounds, Cool Flicks & Free Fun

Auckland City Council presents its first screening of Movies In Parks tonight…it’s Ghostbusters 2016! Here’s the lowdown for the season…

Get ready for three months of free entertainment and the opportunity to explore the Auckland region with your family and friends thanks to the 2017 series of Auckland Council’s Music and Movies in Parks.

Auckland Council has designed a diverse line-up to ensure there’s something for everyone.

From 13 January 2017, Movies in Parks means that film fans of all ages can pack a picnic and watch an assortment of films al fresco. Labyrinth, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Inside Out, Ghostbusters, Jungle Book and The Secret Life of Pets are just a few of the screenings under the sky this summer.

Those seeking the thrill of a live show are spoilt for choice, courtesy of Music in Parks from 15 January 2017 which will feature some of New Zealand’s top musicians spanning at least 11 genres.

From indie artists and elegant opera to cool jazz and banging beats, the line-up includes MAALA, Jordan Luck Band, Clap Clap Riot, Jazz in the Park and Opera in the Dell. Still to be announced are the headlining acts for Demon Energy’s Rock the Park in February.

Also returning in March is the hugely popular George in the Park, featuring our top beat masters including Nice ‘n’ Urlich, Sola Rosa, Kings, and Stack and Piece.

Councillor Cathy Casey, Chair of the Community Development and Safety Committee, is excited for the summer ahead.

“Music in Parks has become a staple in Auckland’s cultural calendar. The line-up celebrates New Zealand music and reflects the broad tastes of our communities. I am looking forward to seeing everyone out enjoying our beautiful parks, summer afternoons, and of course great music – all for free.”

Programmes for Music and Movies in Parks 2017 are online now at musicinparks.co.nz and moviesinparks.co.nz. Both events can also be followed on Facebook, which will feature updates, videos, photos and competitions.

This series has been brought to life thanks to our major partners New Zealand Home Loans, Mondelez New Zealand and Davies Foods.
