Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Ricky Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre) to Tour NZ

Five NZ shows announced for July 28 to August 1.

The Church’s Steve Kilbey and Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Ricky Maymi are hitting NZ next month for a five-stop tour around the country with their new band featuring Shaun and Adrian Hoffman.

Fans can look forward to reinterpretations of Church and Steve Kilbey solo material, plus songs from the eagerly anticipated Kilbey/Maymi album ‘The Wilderness Years by David Neil,’ to be released in New Zealand through Yellow Eye next month.

Tour dates are:

·      Kings Arms, Auckland, July 28
·      Bodega, Wellington, July 29
·      Refuel, Dunedin July 30 (with Bob Scott and the Moreporks)
·      Al’s Bar, Christchurch July 31
·      Cabana, Napier August 1

In support, Kurt Shanks (ex-Stellar*) and band preview songs from the Aucklander’s upcoming EP, ‘Seven Flights Up’.

Tickets for all shows are available from Monday June 13 at Ticketmaster.co.nz, as well as Real Groovy (Auckland), Music Machine (Napier) and Marbecks (the rest of NZ).

As well as completing the new album, it has been a prolific 12 months for both Kilbey and Maymi.

Kilbey toured with The Church throughout the US and Australia for the 30th Anniversary Acoustic Tour. The Church were inducted in the ARIA Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame – recognition for the mark they have made with sublime songs like The Unguarded Moment, Under the Milky Way, Electric Lash, and Grind, with a willingness to experiment and change from album to album.

Maymi is a fan of New Zealand, touring here in 2008 and 2010 with his infamous band, The Brian Jonestown Massacre. He is one of the band’s founding members, leaving in 1993 before rejoining in 2003 and continuing through to today as their guitarist. His New Zealand tour is hot on the heels of a UK tour as part of Liverpool’s legendary The Wild Swans.

The tour is proudly presented by plus1.co.nz, 95bFM, 63, and Jack Daniel’s.
