Listen To Wrecking Crew Bassist Carol Kaye (Interview)

For music fans, one of the most intriguing documentaries on offer at this year’s New Zealand International Film Festival is The Wrecking Crew. The film shines a light on the group of session musicians who worked in Los Angeles in the 1960s in Los Angeles and played on just about every hit record to come out of LA including those by The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, Sonny & Cher and Paul Revere & The Raiders. Members of this elite group of musicians included Hal Blaine (drums), Leon Russell (piano), Glen Campbell (guitar), Carole Kaye (bass) and Tommy Tedesco (guitar)…to name a few. The Wrecking Crew was directed by Denny Tedesco, Tommy’s son. About a decade ago, 13th Floor’s Marty Duda visited Carol Carol-KayeKaye at her home in Los Angeles and talked to her about her life as a session musician. The resulting programme aired on Radio New Zealand National. Now, for those who want to know more about Carol Kaye, here it is again, available on The 13th Floor, courtesy of Radio NZ.
