Guitar Wolf’s Top Influences (Interview)

Japanese Greatest Jet Rock And Roll group Guitar Wolf return to New Zealand in support of their new Beast Vibrator album. Guitar Wolf himself, Seiji, took time to tell The 13th Floor about his top influences   ….

We caught him at a Tokyo planetarium:

Can you see that? There is a nebula studded in the night sky behind the moon. That’s the nebula of WOLF13. It’s a rare planet in the universe, with a form of the face of wolf. Floating in the 6.9 billion light years away from the earth, it’s the Planet of the Wolves. Let me confess. I came to the earth to bring you rock-and-roll, love and courage. I’m a messenger from the Planet of the Wolves.

Recently I was sensing furiously that you earthlings are losing something very important.  Then I received telepathy from Ray, a scientist of the Planet of the Wolves.  “Come back, Seiji!  For the sake of the earth, there is something I must bestow upon you.”

“Be wild!  Find your wild instinct!  Don’t sit still! Hey, don’t keep staring at your mobile. Fxxk “healing”!  Shake your body and heart hard with power of beast!!! “

My top five influences are Link Wray, Johnny Thunders, Joan Jett, Elvis & The Cramps

Link Wray saved me from giving up guitar.

I’ve  always tried playing guitar from hight school, but I’ve always given up g uitar. It was hard to play F cord.Just F cord is such a hard for me.So I thought I’ll not be able to remember more. But one day I bought one cool cover LP.That was  Link Wray.I returned to the house, and dropped the record on my turntable, and the needle was dropped. The tune was Rumble.

Electricity went through my head.Wow,this is guitar. I understood not necessar y technique, just cool.I got the guitar for the first time at that time.

The Top 3 songs that keep me focussed on Rocking the planet are Kick Out The Jams,Borstal Breakout, Everyday People by Joan Jett.

See the clip here where Seiji wears a Transistors t-shirt and plugs the Transistors !!
