Neil Watson works as an Artist Teacher at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music’s Albany Campus in 2013. But after hours he likes to let off steam making serious New Orleans Boogaloo, 70’s Funk, Surf Rock and guitar based jazz. Which is pretty much his template for this new 9 track album.
February 2017 will bring the release of Neil Watson’s second album Studies In Tubular. This latest offering encapsulates a unique hybrid of approaches into an all original 9 track album which unifies New Orleans style clave rhythms, hard-bop ‘Coltrane changes’, Boogaloo grooves reminiscent of Lee Morgan’s The Sidewinder and influences from 70’s funk, surf-rock and country music.
