Watch: Interview With Hotel Coolgardie Film Director Pete Gleeson
Pete Gleeson’s documentary, Hotel Coolgardie, takes a hard look at the Australian male through the eyes of two female Finnish backpackers. Described as “sociologically fascinating and morally icky”, the film follows the young women as they take on jobs as barmaids in Western Australian town of Coolgardie. They quickly realize they are in a world that “feminism forgot”.
Pete Gleeson is in Auckland for the premiere of his film at Rialto Cinemas in Newmarket. He stopped in to The 13th Floor Studio to talk to Marty Duda about the making of Hotel Coolgardie.
Hotel Coolgardie opens at Rialto Cinemas in Auckland and Dunedin on Thursday, June 22nd.
